Why doesn't select/poll satisfy?  That's what most everybody uses.

Your other choice is going to be to fork a process that fills a FIFO
queue which you can read from the other process.  I rarely see anybody
do that.

Hi All ,

I want to achieve a simple serial timeout when a link is not  
present.But also the program should read data when link is there.

Select and Poll doesn't satisfy the needs.Moreover a Nonblock option  
idscards the read option even when the link is present.


Please suggest some useful way of achieving the abopve functionality..
