Only once in recent history, was it necessary to replace u-boot unless you are customizing it yourself. Earlier this year u-boot was bumped from 1.1.4 to 1.2 right around the 1325 release. It uses new partitions and splits out how buildroot splits rootfs and uImage into different files for flashing and uses new way to install the kernel using katinstall and katload. Check out the following: http://docwiki.gumstix.org/Replacing_the_filesystem_image#Verdex_and_post-13 25_versions_of_Basix_and_Connex If you have 1.2 already don't worry about it, but you can search the archives for more details http://www.nabble.com/Gumstix-f22543.html Marc -----Original Message----- From: gum...@li... Subject: Re: [Gumstix-users] Bluetooth fixes -- please help test I'm getting the idea that it isn't always necessary to replace the u-boot file. I'm new to these types of devices. Is there anyway to tell when I need to change the u-boot versus when I do not. The last change I made to the u-boot file screwed up my board so I guess I'll have to send it for a reflash. It would be nice to know that I could compile a new buildroot without having to change the u-boot. It seems that as long as the u-boot is working I'll always be able to fix any mistakes without having to ship the board out. If someone would please elaborate on this I would appreciate it. Subject: Re: [Gumstix-users] Bluetooth fixes -- please help test I'm pretty sure it will, but I need to revert to u-boot 1.1.4 and the less I play with reflashing u-boot the less chance to brick the board. I will try it though because I want a copy of the /etc dir from the original to check for differences. My 1364 build environment vaporized in the upgrade from fedora 5 to fedora 7. I do have the images though, and I know at the time I needed to work things out to get Bluetooth working as it had been in the 116X era. I thought I had saved my files off on mmc card, but I can't read most of the card with the new firmware. Not blaming the new version, because I should have unmounted it cleanly before reflashing and rebooting. Its not a major issue for me at this point - it was basically just to test where things were at with 1566. It was working this morning with what I had and I didn't physically touch the hardware so I can't imagine anything broke. Just a data point for old version of the Bluetooth module on a connex motherboard. Marc -----Original Message----- From: gum...@li...
