But i want to be prepared ;-). I don't know if u-blox > is going to shell something like NEO modules for Galileo. No offense, but IMHO unless you're already a Galileo equipment OEM and/or have invested in a Galileo simulator, planning now for a low-cost embedded GNSS module that "supports" Galileo is at least 5 years too soon - the Galileo schedule currently says IOC in 2013, but I don't think that date factors in the lateness in the technical design, the funding burden shift from industry to EU, the late launch of the second test satellite (SV), .... Yes, I expect that u-blox will eventually sell a NEO-sized or smaller module for the u-blox 5 chipset, but since: - Those size modules currently don't support flash for firmware upgrades, and ... - u-blox 5 hasn't been commercially released in module format yet, so I'd expect at least one firmware upgrades to shake the u-blox 5 modules' firmware out, and ... - Firmware upgrades are likely to be mandatory after Galileo eventually shakes out their system and has enough birds in the air to make receiving them worthwhile, so ... I'd expect real (provable, usable in the real world with real Galileo SVs) u-blox 5 support for Galileo to be far enough down the road that I plan to reserve my Galileo GNSS investment money for simulators and/or other receiver OEMs' products. |
