Also, there are two type of serial cables, a null modem variety and a modem variety. The modem connector normally has a green connector on the end. You want the null modem variety, which should be all the same color. Try disconnecting the serial port from the gusmtix. Let's start at the back of the computer (on th DB-9) connector. You should measure a negative voltage between ground (pin 5) and TxD (pin 3). If you short pins 2 and 3 (on the DB-9 connector), you should be able to type in HyperTerminal and see what you type. If that works, plug in the DB-9 to mini-din8 cable. This page shows the pinouts: http://docswiki.gumstix.com/Gumstix_motherboard_I/O The pin numbers are from the perspective of looking at the waysmall board, Connect pin 3 to pin 5 on mini-DIN connector. You should then be able to type in HyperTerminal and see what you type. Make sure HyperTerminal is configured for 115200 baud, 8 data bits, No parity, 1 stop bit and no flow control. When you power on the the gumstix, you should measure -5 volts (or thereabouts) between Pin 3 and pin 5 on the female DIN connector on the waysmall. If you're not measuring -5 here, then the waysmall is probably bad. -- Dave Hylands Vancouver, BC, Canada http://www.DaveHylands.com/ |
