It needs to be in your home directory, e.g. bob's home directory would be /home/bob. You definitely need a null modem cable. Form the sound of your problem I'd guess that maybe the serial ports are set up incorrectly in the BIOS. If you want to check you serial port setup, give the command "dmesg" and look for something like "serial 8250: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A" the ttyS? will tell you which serial port you should tell kermit to use. Some mobos don't report serial settings the same way so you might end up with a ttyS1 and no ttyS0. You should also verify that the serial port is enabled in BIOS, ideally at the IRQ and I/O address above, which is standard in linux for ttyS0. You should also activate the "Non-PnP OS" option while you're in the BIOS, which will make it easier for linux to detect your ports. Ryan |
