I'm planning to hook up this lcd model on the gumstix: B084SN01-2
The datasheet describes a so-called LVDS, anybody knows if is there a
way to hook up this beast to gumstix directly? I also happen to have a
LVDS <-> TFT converter, I wonder if I need it.
Any tips are more than appreciated! :-)
Before I decided to try a bluetooth connection between my laptop and a =
remote display, I'd planned to use LVDS.
LVDS is "Low Voltage Differential Signalling". It's purpose is to allow =
the display to be driven digitally on very long cable with mininum cable =
Typically, there is a driver at the PC side of the interface and a =
receiver at the display side. From memory, there are three differential =
signal pairs, one each for a serial bit stream for the red, green, and =
blue colors. Probably a differential clock pair as well.
So, the "converter" would convert the low voltage differential, serial =
bit streams into the parallel bits required for a TFT display, say 5 =
bits red, 4 bits green, and 5 bits blue. =20
If the gumstix will be located close to the display, you'd be better off =
to bypass the LVDS converter altogether and drive the display signals =
directly, unless the LVDS receiver is somehow integrated into the =
display. Otherwise, you'll need an LVDS driver to convert the display =
signals output from the gum to LVDS, and the recevier to convert back to =
parallel, 5 volt or TTL level signals typically required by TFT =
LVDS transmitter and receiver chip sets exist.
