Has anyone come up with a cheap way to power their gumstix while it is on their robot (assuming you use it with one)? I am using the gumstix connex 200mx with an iRobot Create, and need to have some sort of voltage converter to use it without a battery, but don't know where to find one. Are there any cheap batteries than anyone uses with their gumstix stack? I am using the Robostix and wifistix as well as the gumstix connex, so I should be looking at 5v power in. Thanks in advance for any help. _________________________________________________________________ http://liveearth.msn.com |

Do you need to step up the voltage, or regulate it down? I would assume that you're tapping the Create's own batteries, so you likely have an excess of voltage. There are lots of products available that will take a high voltage within a range (7-24 volts or so), and regulate that into 5 volts: http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&categoryId=101565 However, if you have 3 volts or so and need a low-current, 5-volt source, you can always use a charge pump (I found one at Digikey, P/N 296-2275-5-ND). A related question ... I have a connex/wifistix combination which needs to be powered by a battery (or a battery pack) and stay alive for a few hours. What specifically do I need ? Is there something off-the-shelf I can buy/order ? The wifi will remain up all the time. Any pointers will be welcome.. Thanks Vikram On Fri, 6 Jul 2007, Bobby Goodrich wrote: iceshe>Date: Fri, 06 Jul 2007 17:06:45 -0400 iceshe>From: Bobby Goodrich <ice...@ho...> iceshe>Reply-To: General mailing list for gumstix users. iceshe> <gum...@li...> iceshe>To: gum...@li... iceshe>Subject: [Gumstix-users] Mobile power iceshe> iceshe>Has anyone come up with a cheap way to power their gumstix while it is on iceshe>their robot (assuming you use it with one)? You coudl try this one from Dimension Engineering: http://www.dimensionengineering.com/DE-SW050.htm I'm not sure if the output is "stiff enough" for wifi use (wifi draws quite a bit of power). You'd have to try it and see. -- Dave Hylands Vancouver, BC, Canada http://www.DaveHylands.com/ |

How much power does the connex/wifistix take with the cf card? Thanks -----Original Message----- From: gum...@li... I will also order a breakout board (http://www.dimensionengineering.com/Vregbreakout.htm). I will then see whether it will be sufficient for my application of a few connex/wifistix in ad-hoc mode interacting with a few fixed devices over wifi. Thanks Vikram |

Haven't tried to drive a WiFi dongle with it yet, but that's on my "to do" list. -- Dave |
