first post.. be gentle.. I am not a Linux noob but I am new to gumstix. I bought a connex and some expansion boards from a guy on ebay. I am not sure of the exact specs of the board but it is a 400Mhz board.. I have u-boot v1.1.4 r1161 and rootfs r1161 on it now.. it did not come with that version. i don't remember which version it came with. it boots fine. ethernet works fine..i am having trouble with bluetooth. The BT module is not responding when starting up. I'll post dmesg below. I think the image I loaded is for newer hardware. Am i right? If so, how do i determine the hardware version i have so I can load the correct version? ***************************************************** U-Boot 1.1.4 (Nov 6 2006 - 11:20:03) - 400 MHz - 1161 *** Welcome to Gumstix *** U-Boot code: A3F00000 -> A3F25DE4 BSS: -> A3F5AF00 RAM Configuration: Bank #0: a0000000 64 MB Flash: 16 MB Using default environment SMC91C1111-0 Net: SMC91C1111-0 Hit any key to stop autoboot: 0 Instruction Cache is ON ### JFFS2 loading 'boot/uImage' to 0xa2000000 Scanning JFFS2 FS: ..... done. ### JFFS2 load complete: 784636 bytes loaded to 0xa2000000 ## Booting image at a2000000 ... Unfortunately, this means MMC support has been disabled out of the box. To turn on MMC and turn off CF, edit the file /etc/modules and comment out or delete the pcmcia (CF) line, and uncomment the MMC lines. Matt The bluetooth chip model number is on the metal shielding. It should be an infineon pba3130x or maybe rokXXX if it's older. If you get the latest buildroot it should be able to initialize the bluetooth regardless of which chip it is. -- Brad |

Mine has an Infineon pba31307/1. so it's likely an older board.. which is fine.. aside from that, you mentioned that the latest buildroot supports all current and previous chipsets? so mine should be working.. however, i don't see the gumstix mac on any bluetooth discoveries and "sdptool browse" on the gumstix gives an error.. Thoughts? On Dec 14, 2007 8:35 PM, Brad Midgley <bmi...@gm...> wrote: > Matt > > The bluetooth chip model number is on the metal shielding. It seems Craig had a patched hciattach and startup script that would safely initialize any adapter. At some point the workaround was to run the adapter's uart at a fixed 115kbps, cutting the bt throughput way down. It's not clear at this point what the secret formula was or if it got ported completely when bluez was upgraded to 3.x. -- Brad |

You can review the patch in packages/bluez if you are curious about what it does. Matt After a hack, I found the bluetooth 31307 module would work again on my older basix (sadly only at 115k). I changed the start rate: HCIATTACH_START_SPEED=921600 and the clock section: echo -n "Starting 32kHz clock..." echo AF1 out >/proc/gpio/GPIO12 echo GPIO out clear >/proc/gpio/GPIO7 sleep 1 echo GPIO out set >/proc/gpio/GPIO7 sleep 1 #/usr/sbin/pxaregs OSCC_OON 1 #while /usr/sbin/pxaregs OSCC_OOK | tail -n 1 | grep -q -v 1;do # echo -n '.' # sleep 1 #done echo "Settled" this is using a recent oe build, but the latest buildroot should be similar. I'm still tinkering on my verdex bluetooth... Brad |

I added HCIATTACH_START_SPEED=115200 to /etc/init.d/S30bluetooth and restart the service.. still the same situation.. Something i noticed though, the service complains that the chipset is "not a PBA31307". i know it is. it says so on the metal shield. :) can someone post their dmesg for a connex 400Mhz? specifically, the Got: status=0x00, hci_ver=0x01, hci_rev=0x0750, lmp_ver=0x02, manuf=0x0009, lmp_subver=0x0750 line. i don't have a buildroot environment set up yet.. The factory flash images only list verdex images. Are those safe for connex flashes. if not, can you provide some links for me to read on setting up a buildroot env or where to get the oe images? Only the images with verdex in the name are verdex images. The other ones are connex/basix images. They were created before the verdex existed which is why they don't have connex in the name. -- Dave Hylands Vancouver, BC, Canada http://www.DaveHylands.com/ |

Matt Don't use verdex images. It's a different architecture. You could try setting up open embedded or wait until Steve's autobuilder puts up connex images automatically. http://www.gumstix.net/index.php?option=com_easyfaq&task=cat&catid=19&Itemid=32 Brad On Dec 18, 2007 4:19 PM, Matt Wagenknecht <ma...@lh...> wrote: > i don't have a buildroot environment set up yet..
