I have a super simple flasher, originally written for an ATMega168.
Click on Projects, avr, simple-flasher
I tested it on my robostix with the atmega128 and it works fine. It
should work on the atmega2561.
I was able to compile it for the atmega2561 using the following command line:
avr-gcc -Os -mmcu=atmega2561 -o simple-flasher.elf simple-flasher.c
avr-objcopy -j .text -j .data -O ihex simple-flasher.elf simple-flasher.hex
