I have a new rootfs copied via hyperterm. it has a size 4034262
i then try the following as per the gumstix tutorial:
GUM> cp.b a2000000 40000 4034262
and i get an "Outside available flash" error.

You only have 4Mb flash on your gumstix. You need to get rid of about
500K in order to get the size down to a level that will work reliably
(JFFS2 requires a bunch of emty sectors in order to work properly).
I found that the biggest culprit is often the C++ libraries. I've put
some stuff on the wiki about running from MMC or RAM disk.
I'm also working on incorporating the work done by uisp into the
robostix program, which would be C only. This will reduce the size
requirement by quite a bit.
