Ok. I am formally giving up on trying getting the buildroot environment working on my XP Pro laptop. The towel has been thrown. My next solution: Build a Linux machine and create the toolchain there. Since I am intimately familiar with the instructions on Buildroot on XP, the first thing that comes to mind is that Debian was used. I don't assume that Debian is a required OS to build the Toolchain. The instructions for doing this don't specify an OS. Just Linux. So, since I found Debian to be horrifically frustrating (I am used to Redhat) I am going to do this in Redhat 9.=20 =20 So, has anyone been able to get this working in Redhat? Will Redhat work for compiling programs (And Kernel) for the Gumstix? Is there anything I should know before I do this? =20 Erik Rodriguez Senior Software Quality Engineer =20 |

I'm doing my development on a Fedora Core 4 box with no issues. It's an old Gateway 866 Mhz, so my build times aren't fantastic, but it grinds away without issue. Laker --- "Erik D. So, since I found Debian to be horrifically > frustrating (I am used to Redhat) I am going to do this in Redhat 9. I've successfully used Mandrake 8.1 to build a buildroot (which is an ancient 2.4 kernel). Obviously you'll need to make sure that install enough development tools (gcc, make) in order to build the toolchain. If there's a "development" option during install, be sure to choose it. I don't see any reason why RedHat 9 shouldn't work. Other developers where I work have built other ARM toolchains (not for the gumstix) using RedHat 7. The biggest issue will be making sure you get enough of the right packages installed to do the build. -- Dave Hylands Vancouver, BC, Canada http://www.DaveHylands.com/ |

I built it with Suse and Fedora 3, no problem... --- "Erik D. Rodriguez" <eri...@ce...> wrote: > Ok. Ubuntu works great for me (it is seems to be debian derivative thought -- I've used both and ubuntu seems to be much easier to use). On Oct 3, 2005, at 5:04 PM, Erik D. Rodriguez wrote: > Ok. My solution, get an old PC, stick any reasonable lunx distribution on it (I've only used fedora, but there are many others that work fine), and it will work. New laptops and linux do not always go together and may cause serious frustration... H On Mon, 3 Oct 2005, Erik D. Rodriguez wrote: > Ok.
