Jon, Many thanks. I tried that and got "Interface doesn't support scanning.". I = tried iwconfig and mwlan0 doesn't turn up. I looked in lsmod, and smc911x, = mcf25 and cfio are all loaded. I looked at the board and there is no blue l= ight (referenced in other posts), just the orange one. Any ideas? Buildroot is 1539. Any specific options that I need to set to get the modul= e firmware to load? I am having the same problems and I did try Daves 1533 build without any luck. The only LED is the orange one that is always on. I have gotten the MMC and wired Ethernet working. However there is no joy from the wireless. I always get the following error. Error for wireless request "Set Encode" (8B2A) : SET failed on device mwlan0 ; No such device. Could some share their working interfaces, modprobe.conf, and modules files that we could reference. One other note. I do not have an antenna connect to the wireless module. The gumstix guys forgot to send it out the my order. Not sure if that makes any difference to this or not. I figured I would need one to actually use the link but I don't think that is my current issue. Right now I don't think it is loading up the driver properly and I am not seeing the elusive "Blue LED" that is referred to in several post. Here's what I remember doing to make sure: Inside your gumstix-buildroot directory confirm that CF8385 is set to compile: shaffer@localhost ~/Source/gumstix/gumstix-buildroot $ grep 85 .config BR2_PACKAGE_CF8385=y After that it was a trial and error process but I _think_ I removed the "root" directory inside build_arm_nofpu to force buildroot to copy everything in. Then I removed the file .cf8385 from the same directory...I saw some mention of that on the gumstix wiki. After that I just did a normal "make". If you look inside build_arm_nofpu there should be a src_cf8535 directory if everything went OK. HTH, David |

So, even if all of the WEP stuff is incorrect, I think the image I have should turn on the blue LED. Perhaps you can show us your console output during bootup so we can see what's being detected. When I get home tonight, I'll try redownloading the image from my website and see how it does with no changes. > Could some share their working interfaces, modprobe.conf, and modules > files that we could reference. I noticed last night that my antenna was unscrewed and all I have plugged in is the cable that goes from the wireless module to the antenna and I can still associate. -- Dave Hylands Vancouver, BC, Canada http://www.DaveHylands.com/ |

Gents, It seems I was missing the "alias mwlan0 mcf25" at the bottom of my modprobe.conf file. My blue LEDs are now blinking on boot so I feel a little better that this is not a hardware problem. Now however I am getting the following error. Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) : SET failed on device mwlan0 ; Network is unreachable. If I run "ifup mwlan0" the blue led blinks on and off a few times and reports the same error. At this point I am assuming this is because I don't have an antenna yet. I am good with that for now until it arrives. Just in case my interfaces file is below for your review to make sure it looks right. On another note the wireless module gets REALLY hot, to the point where its too hot to touch. Is this normal? Possibly again because I don't have an antenna causing it to kick into high power mode or something? It concerns me when components get that hot. ***********interfaces**************** auto lo iface lo inet loopback iface usb0 inet dhcp iface bnep0 inet dhcp auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.50 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.2.255 gateway 192.168.2.1 iface eth1 inet dhcp iface wlan0 inet dhcp auto mwlan0 iface mwlan0 inet static address 192.168.2.51 netmask 255.255.255.0 gateway 192.168.2.1 pre-up /sbin/iwconfig $IFACE key XXXX key open essid ZOO txpower 100mw *************************************************************** On 10/12/07, Jon Hylands <jo...@hu...> wrote: > On Fri, 12 Oct 2007 15:57:35 -0300, "Richard Boyd" <rl...@gm...> > wrote: > > > One other note. I have got the wireless to work and with WPA, for those interested I used wpa_supplicant: wpa_supplicant -B -Dmarvell -imwlan0 -c/etc/wpa-supplicant.conf and my wpa-supplicant.conf: # /var/run/wpa_supplicant is the recommended directory # for sockets and by default, wpa_cli will use it when trying # to connect with wpa_supplicant. # default, wpa_cli will use it when trying to connect with wpa_supplicant. ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant ctrl_interface_group=0 # IEEE 802.1X/EAPOL version # version (2). eapol_version=1 ap_scan=1 fast_reauth=1 network={ ssid="somessid" scan_ssid=1 proto=WPA key_mgmt=WPA-PSK pairwise=TKIP psk="very_secret_passphrase" } finally in /etc/network/interfaces: auto mwlan0 iface mwlan0 inet dhcp wpa-driver marvell wpa-ssid somessid wpa-key-mgmt WPA-PSK wpa-psk "very_secret_passphrase" But this one seems not to do anything. Hope this help, J. |
