I recently swapped my gumstix OS from a custom OE/Anstrom OS running off uSD to the latest sakoman console image running off nand. I noticed a large performance drop with the sakoman image (with identical binaries). It's not disk-related - my program performs no disk IO. cat /proc/cpuinfo was identical except the sakoman image reported lower BogoMIPS for the sakoman console image. Here is the reported difference: BogoMIPS: 719.47 BogoMIPS: 497.82 Any ideas what's going on here, and how to resolve? (google wasn't a big help initially). Regards, Greg |

To answer my own question: 1) Set mpurate in u-boot, or 2) Use the cpufreq tools in linux. Apparently Sakoman's u-boot limits the CPU freq to something lower than the max rate of my Overo Fire. Have you checked the configured MPU_RATE in uboot? -- View this message in context: http://gumstix.8.n6.nabble.com/setting-Overo-CPU-speed-tp4575283p4575315.html Sent from the Gumstix mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

My images run at the "safe" 500Mhz clock rate. If you can accept the reduced silicon life that comes with a higher clock rate, you can change this in u-boot by doing: setenv mpurate 720 saveenv reset Steve On Tue, Mar 13, 2012 at 12:01 PM, Greg Kogut <gk...@ya...> wrote: > I recently swapped my gumstix OS from a custom OE/Anstrom OS running off > uSD to the latest sakoman console image running off nand. > > I noticed a large performance drop with the sakoman image (with identical > binaries). Taken from the datasheet (OPP5 = 600MHz overdrive mode): -------------------------------------------------------- To avoid significant device degradation for commercial temperature OMAP3530/OMAP3525 devices (0°C < Tj < 90°C), the device power-on hours (POH) must be limited to one of the following: * 100K total POH when operating across all OPPs and keeping the time spent at OPP5 to less than 23K POH. * 50K total POH when operating exclusively at OPP5. * 44K total POH with no restrictions to the proportion of these POH at operating points OPP1 - OPP5. -------------------------------------------------------- >>-----Original Message----- >>From: Steve Sakoman [mailto:sa...@gm...] >>Sent: Wednesday, 14 March 2012 5:13 AM >>To: Greg Kogut; General mailing list for gumstix users. >>Subject: Re: [Gumstix-users] setting Overo CPU speed >> >>My images run at the "safe" 500Mhz clock rate. >> >>If you can accept the reduced silicon life that comes with a >>higher clock rate, you can change this in u-boot by doing: >> >>setenv mpurate 720 >>saveenv >>reset >> >>Steve >> >> >>On Tue, Mar 13, 2012 at 12:01 PM, Greg Kogut <gk...@ya...> wrote: >>> I recently swapped my gumstix OS from a custom OE/Anstrom > OS running >>> off uSD to the latest sakoman console image running off nand. >>> >>> I noticed a large performance drop with the sakoman image (with >>> identical binaries).
