My name is Mark and I work at a USDOE national laboratory. We are evaluating
systems to update and upgrade our current seismic telemetry systems. We use
solar panels to charge deep-cycle batteries for power at seismic monitoring
stations; each station is a low power operation. We feed analog signals
using line-of-sight radio links to gather data to a central reporting
Our current plans are to switch the entire network over to digital modems. I
have also looked into the possibility of using gumstix systems to buffer
data at each station and trigger the transmitter only when a threshold
seismic event has occurred. Both strategies will reduce manpower
requirements and, potentially, power consumption at each station.
The reason I am writing to the mailing list is that there seems to be a lack
of information regarding power consumption on the wiki. I checked this link:
but it appears that only benchmark data is available, not power consumption
charts as indicated next to the link. There also appears to be NO contact
information other than a couple of email addresses of the company principles
(PR contacts) and the mailing list. The PDF generator seems to be broken.
Could someone from gumstix contact me at this email address so that I can
discuss our application? I have already burned several hours looking though
the various links on the support wiki and mailing list archives for the
information I need.
Thanks in advance.
