Hi all I have 2 gumstix verdex MX4 one is working without any problem, while the other system doesn't recognize the ethernet port. I have tried in the boot stage and the same problem. the output of the system is attached at the end. how do I send this unit for repair? thanks Opher Gazith GUM> setenv serverip 192.168.1.1 GUM> setenv ipaddr 192.168.1.50 GUM> saveenv Saving Environment to Flash... . done Un-Protected 1 sectors Erasing Flash... . done Erased 1 sectors Writing to Flash... done . done Protected 1 sectors GUM> ping 192.168.1.217 Failed to detect LAN911x. Hi Opher, > as described in my first email. I thought you had two complete setups. So, you have two motherboards, and one works and one doesn't, both using the same console and netCF. Since you're doing the tests from within u-boot, do both boards have the same version of u-boot installed? The u-boot version is printed on the first line of the u-boot output, something like this: U-Boot 1.2.0 (Oct 11 2007 - 19:53:33) - PXA270@400 MHz - 1533M *** Welcome to Gumstix *** DRAM: 64 MB Flash: 16 MB Hit any key to stop autoboot: 0 -- Dave Hylands Vancouver, BC, Canada http://www.DaveHylands.com/ |

Opher, u-boot is the issue: it can only support a single network driver. Early verdex motherboards shipped with the smc91x driver, which is compatible with the netCF-vx. After the netwifmicroSD-vx was introduced and become the most popular network card, the driver in u-boot was switched to smc911x. You have one of each, so the early verdex motherboard works, the new one does not. For network support in u-boot you'll have to update u-boot on the new board. I believe that Dave Hylands has some pre-built binaries at: http://www.davehylands.com/gumstix-wiki/verdex-1533-wifi/ The new u-boot has the 911x suffix, the old does not. For future reference, the binaries for the factory u-boot can be found at: http://www.gumstix.net/feeds/u-boot The default ethernet driver in the rootfs was also changed, so you'll want to edit /etc/modules and change the smc91x line to smc911x. If you don't need networking support in u-boot, this latter change is the only one that you really have to make to get networking in linux. I seem to be having the same problem (I think). In dmesg I see something to the effect of eth0: SMC91C11xFD (rev 2) at address/irq Followed by an eth0: PHY LAN183C183 (LAN91C111 Internal) Followed by an eth0: link down and a few lines later, ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP) eth0: link is not ready. Can anyone confirm that this is the same mismatch discussed in the thread? Gumstix never gets a DHCP addr (duh ;-) and I can ping broadcast and make the activity LED on the net-cf work but it otherwise is almost always dark. TIA ... JT PS: Pls reply to the list, not to me. There is a good change that my anti-spam stuff will silently eat a direct reply and it will all end in tears...
