When I first got my GPSStix I set it all up and usbnet worked fine.
Since then I did the active antenna mod running a 10k resistor from the
pin on the gps module to the VCC on the PWM & HWUART. I originally had
it hitched up to the VCC on the NSSP breakout but I need that for SPI
now. At some point during all of this (it has been over the course of
several months) usbnet stopped working. I'm not sure when it happened
because I've been using the console for most of my work. I am using the
most recent kernel (I compiled the buildroot and re-flashed on Tuesday)
and made sure that the kernel module was configured etc. usb0 comes up
on the gumstix but my host (an XP Machine) no longer sees it correctly.
I get Unknown USB Device. I have the drivers installed from when I
first got it so it should be ok. I also tried it on my laptop in both
Ubuntu and WinXP and ran into the same problem. On Ubuntu it never even
sees it get plugged in. I was reading through and found a post about
removing a piece from the GPStix that was allowing the USB power to
interfere with the wall adapter socket and it seemed like this would
solve my problem. I just thought it was odd that it used to work and
now it doesn't. I thought that maybe it worked until I did the active
antenna mod which increased the power drain to the point where USB no
longer has enough power. I could desolder my resistor to test my theory
but I'd like to avoid it as it was a pain to do. I also would like to
know that removing the piece from the gpsstix is the right thing to do
before I do it. Any comments or suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
