I have installed the linux.inf driver on a WINXP laptop and attached my
gumstix to it's usb port.
The "Linux Ethernet Rndis/Gaget" device appears in my "Network
We are not using DHCP in the lab here so I manually configured this
connection on the WINXP laptop with an IP address in the same subnet as
the laptops' ethernet card. (188.8.131.52)
When I plug the gumstix in the USB port of the laptop I see a message on
the gumstix serial console "usb0: full speed config#2: 100mA Ethernet
Gadget using RNDIS.
So, my vague understanding here is that the gumstix appears much as a
second network adapator on the PC and I should be able to ping the above
address from a computer on this network. I get not returns on the pings
however. An ifconfig on the gumstix shows the usb0 port but without and
IP address. Not being sure how this goes together I put another address
this time on the gumstix ( e.g. ifconfig usb0 184.108.40.206)
However I cannot ping this address either.
My first question in trying to shoot the problem is what addresses
belong where-e.g. do I manually config addresses on both the laptop and
gumstix, or only one of these? I read the USB Networking FAQ which was
quite good on the driver but I need a little information on the IP
implementation past this point.
