(I just sent a similar message to the gpsd folks)
I am interested in making some enhancements to gpsd so it's more useful
as an embedded gps server:
* Drop the gpsd->gps connection when no clients are connected to gpsd.
* Open and close the DGPS and internet connection on demand.
* Repeat corrected NMEA data over bluetooth rfcomm.
With these mods, the embedded board could either make a bluetooth gps or
its own gps module available with corrections to one or more bluetooth
clients. It would also be robust enough to deal with bluetooth
connections coming and going and conserving power.
If the gumstix is online via cellphone, it could act as a corrected gps
server as well as a network access point via bluetooth. Would also be
easy to write a client that phones home to report live location data to
a server. Would be very cool for an auto or bike computer.
Has anyone worked on any features like this?
