Hello all, I'm fairly new to the world of gumstix. I have been working with an LCD screen for the past few weeks: the notorious ALPS LFH8P4032B as mentioned on the DISPLAY page of the wiki. I have followed Holly's steps starting from 'enabling' various fb support options in make menuconfig. My questions are: -should there be a pxafb device in the /dev/ directory? or does it automatically default to fb0? I don't have a pxafb device in /dev/, is this a problem? Also, has anyone had any luck finding timing specifications for the ALPS display? I've contacted ALPS(manu.) and www.halted.com(distr.) with no luck. Thanks, I look forward to contributing to your wonderful community. Ohm. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Thank you, that was very informative! Now I learned what the dev/zero does! =p I tried what you said and got "no space left on device" rather than the numbers you suggested. Any hints? Further, I am working with an LCD screen that I cannot find timing specifications for (web, manu., dist., etc). Any suggestions for a course of action to find the correct timing and finally see our beloved penguin on the screen? Thank you again, Ohm __________________________________ Yahoo! Starting here: http://hubbard.engr.scu.edu/embedded/lcd/lfh8p4032b/lfh8p4032b.html I went up to: http://hubbard.engr.scu.edu/embedded/ and found this guy's name: Pascal Stang http://eeclass.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/staff.cgi?cc=ee281 That tells you how to reach him to ask :) C |

Hi, You should see an entry in the /dev directory for "fb0", which is the first (and only by default) framebuffer device. You can see if it is set up with the right memory depth and screen size if you execute "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/fb0" and it gives you back a number (of bytes or chunks, I can't remember which) that should correspond to the number of bytes in the framebuffer memory. I hope that was useful! Thanks, Jim Walters ohm unmongkolthavong wrote: >Hello all, > >I'm fairly new to the world of gumstix. > >I have been working with an LCD screen for the past >few weeks: the notorious ALPS LFH8P4032B as mentioned >on the DISPLAY page of the wiki. > >I have followed Holly's steps starting from 'enabling' >various fb support options in make menuconfig. > >My questions are: -should there be a pxafb device in >the /dev/ directory? or does it automatically default >to fb0? >I don't have a pxafb device in /dev/, is this a >problem? > >Also, has anyone had any luck finding timing >specifications for the ALPS display?
