So there is a bunch of initialization that needs to be done in order
to read the ADC.
Are the pins configured as inputs?
Does reading the PINx register show the value toggling between 0 and 1?

I once spent a couple of hours trying to find out why I was having =
problems with a serial port. It was the same problem - no common ground. =
