I have just received a _second_ "robostix". The first thing I did was add
the 10K resistor as per the modifications page, so that my gumstix will run
without a console. I plugged it into the connex 400xm-bt with a Net-CF,
powered up and waited for the network to come up. Nothing happened, so I
tested with the other robostix to ensure things were okay: it worked. After
another failed attempt with the new robostix, I used a modified "tweener" to
see what was happening.
Everything looks fine/the same for all configurations (with
robostixs/without them) up to and including
eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x45E1
After that when the new robostix attached there is a bit of a delay,
BUG: soft lockup detected on CPU#0!
[<c001ce34>] (dump_stack+0x0/0x14) from [<c0042f94>]
[<c0042efc>] (softlockup_tick+0x0/0xb8) from [<c003097c>]
and extensive similar messages. Then later it simply sits there outputting
eth0: fubar (rxlen 0 status 4000)
over and over.
I examined the new robostix carefully and note that the hirose connector
seems to be a bit "over cooked looking", not really really bad, but
certainly not as nice as the others. Very slightly distorted looking too.
The appearance is sufficient to wonder about (no, it's nothing I have done).
There is also a little bit of discolouration of the PCB. This could indicate
that it was over cooked when being made up.
Any suggestions as to what to do with it? Is this RMAable? Bearing in mind
the shipping, etc., costs from/to the UK, it may not be worth sending it
back to the USA?
