I have been working with pppd on the gumstix for a few weeks. One of the main reasons that pppd is not working
for you is that the gumstix does not provide CD and DTR to the modem and by default pppd requires these.
The best way to get around this is adding the command "local"  to the /etc/ppp/options  files.
Also do not use the "modem" option on the command line.

I am trying to connect my gumstix to a modem. I built and installed a new kernel with the necessary modules thanks to everyones help on this list. I am using the connex platform that has built in bletooth with a waysmall and netcf card. I read that u can't have bluetooth and 2 serialports without making connections on the board itself, so I boot the connex and ssh to it over the netcf card and plug my modem into the ttyS0 on the waysmall. I modified the inittab to stop repawning the console on ttyS0 so pppd could use that for the modem. Then I try "pppd /dev/ttyS0 115200 crtscts modem" the Error log says ttyS0 is looped back and exits. Please help, this is an important project and I'm behind. THANKS! in advance.
