Yes this can be done. From Linux rwmount the rootfs as read only then
you can use dd to copy the contents of flash to somewhere like MMC.
You can then use a gumstix-factory.script to flash it to other gumstix.

mount -o remount,ro /
dd if=/dev/mtd0 of=/mnt/mmc/image.img

Google for gumstix-factory.script for more details on what to do next.
