Am having problems booting a Gumstix system out of the box. I have an Overo Fire with a Summit carrier board. I tried booting with a keyboard and mouse hooked up to a powered hub and the hub connected with a mini-A to mini-B cable to the OTG port. At the Login: prompt, I type 'root' and I get the following:

"Unable to determine your tty name"

Tried to boot using the console port. Connected a PC to the console port using a mini-B to Std-A cable and Kermit running on the PC. I get a bunch of error msgs during the boot sequence:

INIT: version 2.86 booting
mount: error while loading shared libraries: libblkid.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
grep: /proc/cmdline: No such file or directory
/etc/rcS.d/S01psplash: line 16: can't open /proc/cpuinfo: no such file
/etc/rcS.d/S01psplash: line 16: awk: not found
mount: error while loading shared libraries: libblkid.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
/etc/rcS.d/S01psplash: line 21: /usr/bin/psplash: not found

In any case I cannot get to a successful login.

Do I need the SD card installed with a root fs to boot?

Any ideas?
