I've been successful getting an image the same size as the gumstix boot logo to work perfectly.  But I'm having problems getting a full sized image  (480x272) to work.  I'm getting nothing displayed on screen when it should display the splash and I get a "fbcon_init image to big for the display" warning on startup.

Could anyone explain why this is happening?  The image is perfectly configured (224 colour index, 480x272 pixel, ascii), like I said if I make a smaller image like the gumstix logo it works fine.

Now I wouldn't mind this if there was a way to keep the 'banner' on screen whilst the console text displays below like I've seen in a few videos on youtube.  Does anyone know how to achieve this?

Please help, this is very important to me to get this looking right for my device.

Thanks in advance :)
Drew

Subject: Re: [Gumstix-users] Another one about boot logo

If you don't have a startup logo to begin with, I can't help you. I
had one with the stock gumstix-x11-image, with the following hardware:
Verdex XL6P
Console-LCD-16
Samsung display

I've tinkered around with this a little bit and have a custom logo by
the following method:

The gumstix-fb-logo.patch is a diff between a custom image and the
default Penguin 'logo_linux_clut224.ppm'. This image can be found in
(for a Verdex):

gumstix-oe/tmp/work/gumstix-custom-verdex-angstrom-linux-gnueabi/gumstix-kernel-2.6.21-r1/linux-2.6.21/drivers/video/logo

You'll need the original image, so you can perform the following steps
to get a pre-patched kernel:

bitbake -c clean gumstix-kernel
bitbake -c unpack gumstix-kernel

After you implement your patch, do:

bitbake gumstix-kernel

to finish the build.

You can then copy uImage over, and hopefully have a pretty, custom logo.

If the compile fails, it's likely due to a problem with your PPM. In
Gimp, you need to set the palette to 224 colors and make sure you save
it as ascii.
