I'm using bitbake 1.8.10 and my build machine is Ubuntu 10.04. There is a newer git repo for the verdex, but I've not used it personally.

What distro are you trying your build from? IIRC the verdex svn repository hasn't built cleanly for me since I was running Ubuntu 7.10 or 8.04, but I've always been able to search the mailing list archives and find a fix for any build failure I've come across (and the gmp-native failure is one that I know there is a fix for).

Hi, I'm following these instructions to try to get a cross compile environment setup:

I get to the point where I need to build an image:

  bitbake gumstix-basic-image

It does some setup and on the first package it tries to compile, I get several thousand lines of errors complaining about multiple definitions of functions.  Here's a small sample:

...
NOTE: package gmp-native-4.2.1: started
NOTE: package gmp-native-4.2.1-r2: task do_compile: started
ERROR: function do_compile failed
...
| .libs/compat.o: In function `__gmpz_fits_uint_p':
| compat.c:(.text+0x0): multiple definition of `__gmpz_fits_uint_p'
| .libs/assert.o:assert.c:(.text+0x0): first defined here
| .libs/compat.o: In function `__gmpz_fits_ulong_p':
| compat.c:(.text+0x12): multiple definition of `__gmpz_fits_ulong_p'
| .libs/assert.o:assert.c:(.text+0x12): first defined here
| .libs/compat.o: In function `__gmpz_fits_ushort_p':
| compat.c:(.text+0x24): multiple definition of `__gmpz_fits_ushort_p'
| .libs/assert.o:assert.c:(.text+0x24): first defined here
...

What am I missing here?  I'm a bit frustrated; when I got my first gumstix three years ago I was compiling code that ran on my gumstix within an hour.  Now, after about a day of messing with it, I can't even get this new build environment installed.
