Even I lately switched to Yocto and had troubles with NetworkManager running in the background.
If you want to just get rid of NetworkManager this is it.
Added to the previous reply see if this helps - try:

root@overo:~# pidof NetworkManager
164
root@overo:~# kill 164
root@overo:~# pidof NetworkManager     //now NetworkManager is not working
root@overo:~#

Now we can run the old commands like ifconfig, iwconfig without any interference from the NetworkManager.

Hi,

I added some packages and it worked out the old way at the end:

CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL += "wpa-supplicant"
CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL += "wireless-tools"
CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL += "openssl"
CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL += "zeroconf"
CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL += "modutils-initscripts"
CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL += "update-modules"
CORE_IMAGE_EXTRA_INSTALL += "linux-firmware-sd8686"

I followed this thread:

Good luck!

Hi All,

I just switched to using a yocto based rootfs.    I don't have a screen so no network-manager-applet to configure anything.   I want to configure wifi but the old method of removing network manager, creating a /etc/network/interface and starting wpa_supplicant with –c /etc/wpa_supplicant.conf) does not seem to work.  There does not even appear to be an "ifup" command.

Has anyone configured a non-open wifi without out a screen?   How do you do it?

Thanks for time,

David Moffatt
