It's only frustrating in that I have the mmap program ready to go.

Not for me is a tough one to swallow and even harder on a work project haha

I did do that dpkg actually.
Total bummer. I'll check yocto and your sight again to make sure I have all necessary packages.

It's building fine here. Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit.

Did you do the sudo dpgk-reconfigure dash thing to change the default
shell to bash?

I'd already done that so I didn't check the error if any if you don't do that.
