The only "downside" is that Linaro is Ubuntu-centric.

It seems much much SIMPLER to use their toolchain than OpenEmbedded.
They are partnered with Ubuntu (their SD card creation script results in an Ubuntu setup).

Because they use a newer version of uboot, on all Overo's (except for the Tide) you'd need to change the u-boot env as mentioned in the bug report.
(replace "mmc init" with "mmc reset 0")

If you're host computer takes too long to resync partition tables to the kernel you'll also have to change the sleep time as mentioned in the bug report.

Aside from those two bugs the getting started is extremely simple.
