You asked: Gumstix - Please ship the Tobi with the battery or at least offer it as an accessory item.
Gumstix does not plan to ship any batteries with an expansion board or as an accessory, at this time.
Lithium cell and battery transportation is regulated in both the United States and the international community. In the United States, the applicable regulations can be found in the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR). Internationally, IATA governs the packing and transport. Any shipper of lithium batteries is required to comply with the many and latest regulations. And, these rules appear to be changing in the direction of getting stricter as per this notice a year ago from the DOT:
"On January 11th, 2010, the United States Department of Transportation (DOT) published a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) aimed at creating more strict regulations governing the air transportation of lithium cells and batteries in the United States...."
The time and effort to meet each of these requirements, regulations and approvals from the proper governing agencies is not something that we are prepared to take on at Gumstix in order to ship batteries.

I hope this makes sense.
You also asked: the 3D CAD drawings for the TOBI need updated as the only ones online do *not* show the battery holder
Good catch. thanks !
Each of the 3D CAD drawings will be updated shortly to ensure that each coin call battery holder is shown in the 3D CAD drawing, if not shown currently.
