Hi,
I made a quick hack with a max232 and got it to work. I guess this board would be more what I'm after...

Suitable?

You should do it in the C code using the commands explained in the main page. However, yes, I think that the best option still remain using a "true" USB-serial adapter, like the one you mention. In that case you get a working virtual serial port that you can configure through windows properties or directly in the HyperTerminal configuration window.

Hey Enrico,

thanks! I figured that out in the mean time. I wrote a little c programm that allows me to set the mode and it seems like, as you say, that i must extend it to constantly poll the output of the gumstix. But where do you think i will have to set the properties for the serial connection? In the c code, in the windows properties...? Once it comes to transmitting a file, this might become a quite risky adventure, no?!? So I should rather try to get my hands on a suitable adapter liek this one:

Thanks!

It seems that device isn't exactly a serial adapter. The virtual serial port you see after driver installation is directed to communicate with the micro wich is on the adapter. You should communicate with it as explained in the link you posted. You should set the mode to serial and the serial speed to match that of the gumstix (115200 I suppose). then you can send and receive data through this protocol: http://www.robot-electronics.co.uk/htm/usb_iss_serial_tech.htm. Basically you must poll continuosly the micro to verify if new data has been received.

Hi,
I'm trying to connect to the gumstix console via this serial adapter http://www.robot-electronics.co.uk/htm/usb_iss_tech.htm and the ffuart interface provided by the robostix. I connected the GND pins, Rx of FFUART with Tx of the serial connector and vice verca... The power is supplied by the robostix. For the settings in hyperterminal I use those settings http://docwiki.gumstix.org/images/e/ee/HyperTerm_3.JPG. The terminal doesn't show anything. Somebody with an idea?

Thanks!
Steffen
