You could setup them up that way (i.e. run a script that calls pxaregs
with the appropriate values). You can setup shutdown scripts in
/etc/inittab

The intial setting is setup by u-boot at reset time. The files:
gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/u-boot-1.1.4/board/gumstix/memsetup.S
gumstix-buildroot/build_arm_nofpu/u-boot-1.1.4/include/configs/gumstix.h

perform the initial setup.
