I recently figured out how to do C++ with bitbake by following the hello
world tutorial found here:

The hello world tutorial is a great starting point, however, it does not
show you how to compile with C++ let alone a program with multiple source
files.  I can send you  a a sample C++ hello world program with multiple
source files and the corresponding makefile and bitbake recipe if you like.
