tried yet another (third) cf card, same issue.  cards are ruled out, udev seems to be working properly.  maybe a bad pin on the cf stix?

udev does put hda in /dev if i do modprobe ide-disk hda (if the card was in during boot).

Reboot the gumstix with no card inserted.  Then:

modprobe pcmcia
udevmonitor &
<insert card now>

What does it say?

i have tried two compact flash cards (lexar and sandisk).
neither is
readable/writeable by gumstix, but readable/writeable by everything
else.

if i boot without any card in, and do

modprobe ide-cs
modprobe ide-disk

i get no errors.  then i insert the cf card, i get

# pccard: PCMCIA card inserted into slot 0

but nothing shows up in /dev

pccardctl has no info on the card unless the card is in during boot.
if i boot up with a cf card inserted, i can get ide-disk to throw
some errors.  if i just insert it after boot it's recognized by
pcmcia but that's all that happens.

maybe an issue with hot plugging?

Do other CF cards work with your gumstix/CFstix?  Since the gumstix
can read the CIS from the card, it seems likely that the
hardware is
OK, but you never know...

hopefully this is an easy question to answer..

i want to mount my cf card using the cf stix.  i have tried
formatting my card as FAT and ext2.  the kernel recognizes the
card,
pccardctl sees it, but no device shows up in /dev by default.
if i
modprobe ide-disk, i get a /dev/hda, but all sorts of errors show
up.

here's what i did and the messages i got:

i edited /etc/modules, commented out the first two mmc lines, and
then uncommented the pcmcia line.
rebooted.  no block device shows up in /dev.

here's what comes up during boot:

pccardctl returns

then i looked here:

now check this out:

but if i ls /dev again, hda now shows up.
