Here is what I placed in my /etc/network/interfaces file:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

auto eth0

iface eth0 inet static

        address 192.168.1.50

        netmask 255.255.255.0

        broadcast 192.168.1.255

up /bin/ip route add default via 192.168.1.1

When the gumstix boots I get the following error message:

Error for wireless request "Set ESSID" (8B1A) :

SET failed on device eth0 ; Operation not supported

I'm trying to get my Ethernet connected to my hub.  I have a cat 5 cable connected to the EtherStix and to the Hub I have no link light.  Is there a driver that needs to be configured as well?  Also I noticed that the error message references "wireless", yet this is certainly not wireless.

Thanks,

michael

The ntpdate command is not necessary, but my interfaces file shows the details you need:

[root@gumstix ~]# cd /etc/network/

[root@gumstix network]# cat interfaces

# Configure Loopback

auto lo

iface lo inet loopback

iface usb0 inet dhcp

iface bnep0 inet dhcp

auto eth0

iface eth0 inet static

        address 10.10.10.144

        netmask 255.255.254.0

        broadcast 10.10.11.255

up /bin/ip route add default via 10.10.10.254

        up /usr/bin/ntpdate 10.10.10.3

iface wlan0 inet dhcp

[root@gumstix network]#

Subject: [Gumstix-users] Static IP address with etherstix

Has anyone set up a static ip address on the verdex using the ether stix?

I saw how to set up the DHCP on the wiki.  Its been a long time since I configured linux for a static ip address.

Thanks,
Michael
