I'm exploring some of the gumstix features just to learn a bit more about it. It looks like E-cons is using sysvinit for their build instead of systemd - psplash has the proper loading sequence. I also saw some recommendations on forums around using sysvinit over systemd. So I figured I would give it a shot and see what I can learn.

I changed my local.conf to have the following:
PREFERRED_PROVIDER_udev = "udev"
DISTRO_FEATURES_append = " sysvinit pam"
VIRTUAL-RUNTIME_init_manager = "sysvinit"
I did the bitbake on the image and it built everything just fine.

The gumstix booted up to the login prompt but when I go to login with the root user, it fails to log in:

Attached is the bootup sequence output - failed_login.log

Any pointers would be helpful.
Thanks!
