Phillip, If you want to code up something in java then you might like to have a look at jnigpod -> jnigpod download: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=116903&package_id=194504 muvon: http://sourceforge.net/projects/muvon/ It is a library that I wrote as part of the muvon project to interface with libgpod (using jni). It is a little long in the tooth now so may not work for current releases of libgpod but should give you a guide to writing something of your own.
