I would like to make all my music in the iPod available using a plain fs interface where I create a
directory structure with 3 levels.
Artist -> Album -> Tracks
I could write something using libgpod, but I wonder if anybody has ever done it?

This should be possible with gtkpod now, by right clicking on the iPod
and choosing the "Copy Tracks to Filesystem" item. The dialog
presented has an option for the filename format, something like
%a/%A/%T - %t.mp3. (Add additional extensions as needed, e.g.:
%%a/%A/%T - %t.mp3; %a/%A/%T - %t.m4a)
I'd have to look, but there might be a % switch to use the existing
extension. That would be most convenient, allowing %a/%A/%T - %t.%x
