0.99.12 (1.fc8) installed in Fedora Core 8.

When I sync the iPod (60GB iPod Video - xA147) any Smart Playlist that is set for Live Updating is empty on the iPod itself. If I resync the iPod with w32 iTunes, it goes back to a state where the playlists display properly on the iPod again. I can also sync it all day long with gtkpod-0.99.8-3.fc6 and they work just fine, but one sync to 0.99.12-1.fc8 stops that. The Smart Playlists DO live update in gtkpod, just not the iPod itself.

It worked in FC8 with version 0.99.11.

Which are the respective versions of libgpod you are running?

    JCS.

    I backrev'ed to libgpod-0.5.2-2.fc8 and gtkpod-0.99.10-1.fc8 and it's working... (i was mistaken about there being a 0.99.11 version for fc8)

    It's not working with gtkpod-0.99.12-1.fc8 and libgpod-0.6.0-3.fc8.

    Cheers!

There was a thread on the gtkpod-questions list about this recently: http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.comp.ipod.gtkpod.user/1442

FWIW, I happen to have the same model ipod and am using gtkpod and libgpod on Fedora 8 (I maintain the packages there). I've not had any problems with smart playlists that have the live update flag set.

I'm still running firmware 1.2.1. One of the folks in that thread said he only started having the problem after updating his firmware to 1.2.3. Perhaps you can check that thread and see if any similarities jump out that might help us determine what the root of this problem is? Do you use the ipod with itunes at all?

I just did some more testing. I had been using the SVN versions of libgpod and gtkpod (I don't recall the number, but it was from about two days ago most recently).

I tried downgrading to libgpod 0.5.2 and gtkpod 0.99.10 and still experience the problem.

Same with 0.6.0, and SVN libgpod, and 0.99.12 and SVN gtkpod.

If I used iTunes, the playlists would get fixed until I somehow touched the playlists in gtkpod (renaming them, for example).

However, if I downgraded to 0.5.2, and renamed a playlist, they started working again. I then upgraded back to SVN (first I'd upgrade libgpod, leaving gtkpod in place, and then upgrade gtkpod), renaming a playlist each time. The problem did not recur.

So, it's even more mysterious now.

I am using the latest iPod firmware (1.2.3), and checked out the gmane thread. Strange indeed :-(

  • Is it working these days? Or still broken with latest libgpod release?
