But I am suggesting that a user-definable "banlist" config file be set up and some default (bad) IPs be shipped with it, as a "starting place". I, for one, would like to have this automatically set up for me, so I don't need to mess with the filters myself for each new host that's found, possibly messing something up, etc. I'm sure many other "standard" users would like to have something more automated too. Kinda like the fact that most linux systems these days come with a standard/default firewall set up to protect again many of the badguys, but it's still completly redifinable by the end user. Still, the reason most linux distro DID set up the default firewall rules, is because most "average joe" users don't take the time to set it up themselves, either because they don't have the time or want to take the time to learn all about the syntax, rules, etc, or they simply overlook that step, or whatever reason. I think GtkG would be served well, by also taking this attitude of starting off people with a good, protective default. -- David Slimp rock808@DavidSlimp.com http://www.DavidSlimp.com Yahoo Instant Messenger ID: rock808 fax: 801-858-4102 |
