I run debian sid and have been unable to use any ocr since an upgrade
some 6 months ago.  I have installed other OCRs but only cuneiform and
gocr are shown on the drop-down.  attempting to use OCR causes gscan2pd
to hang, but it works fine without ocr.  I have reluctantly abandoned
the pracice of using OCR and save only the image files.  I wonder
whether this is the same issue you are experiencing.
