I sent an email to the developer of the backend to see if he intended on correcting the behaviour. From the source, it looks like it just defaults a set of standard options. However, he maintains an independent project for scanning from the printer with options <a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="http://www.jon.demon.co.uk/dell1600n-net-scan/"><http://www.jon.demon.co.uk/dell1600n-net-scan/></a>.
