I am using Grip 3.2.0 that comes with FC5 86_64 distro.
When I go to rip+encode, the ripping is fine, but the
encoding crashes grip the second it starts. I am using
lame to encode, and the encoding works if I do it from
the command line. My encoding parameters are:

Encoder: lame
Encoder Executable: /usr/bin/lame
Encoder command-line: -h -b 256 %w %m
Encode File Extension: mp3
Encode File Format: /Audio/mp3/Ripped Music/%a/%d/%t -
%n.mp3

Previously, these parameters had worked in FC4

I confirm this bug on centOS 5, x86_64, with gcc 4.1.1 20070105 (Red Hat 4.1.1-52)

A workaround that works for me is to rebuild from source, changing the -O option in CFLAGS (in the Makefile) from -O2 (the default) to -O1

I came around this while trying to debug, and have tested this "fix" a little without any more crashes

so, the problem may come from a gcc x86_64 optimization bug
or it could be a bug in grip revealed by gcc optimizing

  • This seems to have fixed the problem for me as well: thanks.
