i have a relatively messy set of panel data with quite a few missing values and 16 vars at the moment.

when trying to structure it as a panel by:
id = group/unit variable
year = time variable (0-4, not all units have all values, some only 0, some 0-1 and so forth)
using the "indexing variable" option, gretl crashes with the above output.

else than that, i would be really happy if gretl recognized more forms of date-variables as dates. for example recongnizing the following would be really cool:
DD-MM-YYYY
YYYY-MM-DD
same with dots(.) and slashes(/) instead of dashes(-). and if it might recognize HH:MM:SS as a timestamp in some near-future version, i would be in econometrical heaven :)

please go on doing the prog, it is really good already. i like it and i recommend it to students (being a student myself)

Could you please attach a copy of your data file.
Or you could email it to cottrell@wfu.edu

    Thanks.

I'm attaching an illustrative csv file which gretl handles
correctly, just for comparison. Perhaps you can see what
the difference is between this and your data.

    File Added: panel.csv

I have experimented some more, and found that I could provoke
a crash under the circumstances you mention, if I feed gretl
a data file with incorrect "panel index variables" --
specifically, if the file contains duplicated observation
lines (e.g. two or more lines that supposedly contain an
observation for unit 1, period 2). This is now fixed in
CVS and the Windows snapshot: you'll get an error message
    rather than a crash.

If we don't hear any more we'll assume this is fixed and
    close the bug.

I have now found and fixed a second possible cause of crashing under
the circumstances mentioned: if the panel is unbalanced, requiring
the insertion of extra observations, and if the original dataset
    contains strings identifying the observations.

In the absence of any response from the original poster, I'm assuming
that this is fixed and am closing the bug.
