In gretl, open a new script, type some stuff such as
- many short lines
- a long line, that doesn't fit in the current screen

Then "Find..." something that is contained in a short line. Gretl will scroll horizontally and vertically, always, while the most comfortable and standard (see for instance gedit) way to scroll would be to move vertically as less as possible and move horizontally only if it is needed.

Having "Find..." scrolling horizontally is quite annoying if you are checking among the repetitions of some word mainly contained in the short lines.

Replacing
gtk_text_view_scroll_to_mark(view, vis, 0.0, TRUE, 0.1, 0.0);
with
gtk_text_view_scroll_to_mark(view, vis, 0.0, FALSE, 0, 0);
at line 1385 of http://gretl.cvs.sourceforge.net/viewvc/gretl/gretl/gui2/helpfiles.c?revision=1.187&view=markup soves the issue.
