As an alternative, having a "zoom" option in the editor would also work, then I could take a slightly larger screen shot, zoom into it in the editor and then clip the image to the exact size.

I totally agree, having a zoom option is the only way to do precision grabbing (although rounded edges in Windows make precision screenshots almost impossible.

See attached an example of a zoom while grabbing (from another tool).

Combined with the zoom option in the editor where you can "markup" a section, it would make the product perfect.
