Gourmet Recipe Manager announces parallel stable and unstable releases today. The 0.8.5.12 gets the quick-ingredient-adder interface added to unstable in 0.8.6.3 and both releases get a vastly improved choose-encoding dialog for text imports. If you're new to Gourmet, I recommend trying out the 0.8.6.4 release -- it will soon become the default release, and the main roadblock to my calling it "stable" is ironing out the code that upgrades the database from one release to another (which obviously doesn't matter to you if you're installing for the first time!).
Gourmet's latest development release is here! Gourmet's 0.8.6 tree should handle large recipe collections more gracefully than past versions have. 0.8.6.3 reimplements elements of the user interface to get rid of annoying GTK error messages and prevent some of the segfaults that were happening with 0.8.6.2. 0.8.6.3 also includes a newer, easier ingredient editing interface. Hopefully this is one of the last of the 0.8.6 releases to be marked "unstable" -- interested users, please test this release so we can get enough bugs out to call this "stable" and retire 0.8.5.x. If you're updating from 0.8.5.x, it's not a bad idea to export a backup collection of your recipes before upgrading just in case the database-converter script breaks (though please do report any converter breakages as bugs!).
Gourmet 0.8.6.2 has been released. Gourmet 0.8.6.2 makes substantial changes to the database and to the front-end display of recipes. These changes should make Gourmet play much more nicely with large recipe collections. Please test away so we can start cleaning up bugs and stabilize this branch!
Gourmet 0.8.5.11 has been released. Gourmet is a recipe manager for GNOME and other GTK environments. 0.8.5.11 fixes a problem with menus in the Shopping List window for non-GNOME environments. 0.8.5.11 also fixes a bug that allowed non-easily-readable units in shopping lists (such as 23 tbs.) and a bug that prevented Gourmet from starting up when there was a problem with the locale.
Gourmet 0.8.6.1 unstable has been released. 0.8.6.1 continues changes to the DB -- the DB has been optimized which should result in smaller database size and better handling of large databases.
Gourmet 0.8.5.10 has been released. Gourmet, the August 2005 SourceForge.net Project of the Month, is a recipe manager for the GNOME Desktop. Version 0.8.5.10 fixes a lag when adding ingredients by hand. Gourmet Recipe Manager is a recipe-organizer that generates shopping lists and allows rapid searching of recipes. It imports mealmaster & mastercook files and exports webpages & other formats. Gourmet uses python, gtk and metakit.
Gourmet's 0.8.6.0 has been released as a new unstable branch of development. Hopefully with rapid testing, this branch will stabilize quickly. 0.8.6.0 brings improvements to the database (more will be coming in 0.8.6.1!) and improved sorting by rating, preparation and cooking time. Ratings are also given with stars now rather than with simple text, allowing for quicker, simpler sorting.
Gourmet Recipe Manager version 0.8.5.8 has been released. Gourmet is a recipe manager and shopping list generator intended for the GNOME Desktop, but functional on any *nix or Windows computer. Version 0.8.5.8 brings a number of major bugfixes. 0.8.5.8 also adds some more keyboard shortcuts.
Gourmet 0.8.5.7 has been released. The last two versions (0.8.5.6 & 0.8.5.7 in quick succession) have brought a new windows installer, improved mealmaster import, and a nice webpage import plugin system. I encourage interested developers to write an import plugin to scrape their favorite website! You can now drop plugins into your local ~/.gourmet/ directory for easy testing. Of potential interest to other pygtk developers is a new mnemonic manager in this system, which should make mnemonics more usable in all languages, since mnemonic conflicts are now avoided programatically.
Gourmet 0.8.5.4 has been released. This is a minor bugfix release that fixes a bug in entering numbers in non-English locales and a bug in exports. Gourmet is a recipe manager and shopping-list generator for the GNOME desktop, capable of importing recipes from a variety of sources (including popular recipe websites like epicurious) and exporting recipes in a variety of formats (including as web pages).
Gourmet 0.8.5.3 has been released. Gourmet is a recipe manager for the GNOME desktop environment (though it runs on any platform GTK supports). Gourmet is capable of exporting and importing recipes from a variety of formats, including webpages (you can export your collection as a webpage and you can import recipes from a number of popular recipe websites, such as epicurious). 0.8.5.3 fixes a bug that broke MealMaster import and fixes krecipes import. 0.8.5.3 also fixes a bug that prevented importing a recipe after you'd stopped a previous import.
Gourmet 0.8.5.1 has been released. Gourmet 0.8.5.1 fixes an issue with importing images on windows and includes an experimental windows installer (please report problems with the installer -- I'm hoping to stabilize the windows installer within the next few releases!). 0.8.5.1 also includes some patches to reimplement compatability with pygtk 2.4.1 (version 0.8.5.0 failed to run with pygtk<2.6). 0.8.5.1 also fixes the zip importer and improves mastercook importer for some broken archives.
Gourmet 0.8.5.0 has been released! Gourmet is a recipe manager for the GNOME platform (but only dependent on gtk) that supports managing and searching a recipe collection and generating shopping lists.
In addition to a variety of UI improvements and bug fixes, Gourmet 0.8.5.0 brings a major new feature: support for importing recipes from various major webpages, such as epicurious, allrecipes.com, and recipezaar.com. More importantly, the framework for HTML import will allow developers to rapidly add import for scraping other popular websites. 0.8.5.0 also allows users to import directly from zip, tar, and gzipped archives, either from the web or from local files. Gourmet 0.8.5.0 also provides basic help within the app for the first time in the form of a simple F.A.Q.
Gourmet Recipe Manager 0.8.4.4 has a windows installer released for the first time in a while. The windows installers need testing and may be broken -- please report! (And if anyone wants to take over windows builds, please feel free to volunteer...)
