Adding a "where used" query to sources and places shouldn't be too difficult. I'll see if I can add it in the near future. This is something that I've been wanting to add for a while. Merging, in general is going to go through a major overhaul. I haven't done this yet, because several things in the database are still changing. A more complex place object was added in 0.5.X. 0.6.X will introduce Media Objects (photos, documents, sound files, etc.) and multiple sources per item. I'm also trying to determine if multiple notes per item are needed. I have been developing some ideas for merging. Merging is not an easy thing to do, which can be seen from the rather poor job that most tools do with it. I plan on putting together a proposal for merging after the 0.6.0 release, and I am really hoping for some good ideas from the users. The issues are pretty complex, and I want to be able to outline them (at least as I see them) for everyone to be able to comment. The rest of the 0.6.X changes will focus on the database contents, improving GEDCOM import/export, and improving reports and report generators.
