On Sat, 15 Nov 2003, Russ Bates had this to say: >Hi, all - Hi Russ, >I'm a new Gramps user - or, more accurately, I'd like to be a new user, but I >can't seem to get Gramps to run on my system. I'm running SuSE 8.2 (clean I seem to recall there being some "issues" with SuSE at one time dealing with appropriate python-gnome bindings. If noone else comes up with an immediate answer, check the mailing-list archives at http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/forum.php?forum_id=1991. Unfortunately, they aren't searchable, but you can peruse the threads. I would look back around August/September threads... >The first thing I noticed was that there was no menu entry anywhere for >Gramps, neither under Gnome nor KDE. Ahhh. Good point. We haven't implemented this in the install. I'll look into trying to make that happen. You should be able to edit your menus yourself, though, and add it manually. >When I tried to start 'gramps' from the command line under Gnome, I got this: > I don't know about these errors. It looks like an xauth issue. How do you log in and start up the Gnome or KDE session? Do you log into a command line and type "startx" or do you log in from a graphical "greeter" screen and choose a session type? If the latter, do you know whether it's gdm or kdm or xdm that's running? >What did I do wrong, and what can I do to fix it? Any help _greatly_ >appeciated... We'll hopefully get this figured out. Have you tried Googling either of those error messages? Cheers, -Don -- ________________________________________________ Donald A. Peterson | dpe...@si...
