So, I copy a .gramps file to a tmp dir, rename it to .gramps.gz and then gunzip it. Now I have $ ls -1 Johnson-Lyle-Gilbert-Bakewell_2013-02-05_05:00:01.gramps $ file Johnson-Lyle-Gilbert-Bakewell_2013-02-05_05:00:01.gramps Johnson-Lyle-Gilbert-Bakewell_2013-02-05_05:00:01.gramps: XML document text The permissions on the file are -rw-rw-r-- and the file is most certainly editable in vim, gedit and mousepad. Can you show us how it's not editable?
